Google recently expanded two of its services. The Google Page Creator now allows users to create multiple sites (as opposed to the previous limit of one), and Google Book Search has, in effect, moved into the physical world.
Loren Baker of the Search Engine Journal wrote about the first update. “Upon launching, Google Page Creator was only allowing one hosted website per Google Account,” she wrote. “This however has changed, along with the Google ‘How do I create a new site’ Help Page.”
That page used to read: “During this initial testing period, we’re only allowing each account to have a single site. However, this site can be comprised of up to 100 pages. We’ll soon be offering support for multiple sites, but don’t have any specific timeline to share at this point.”
Baker observed that it now says, “Select the Create a site with a different address link that appears near the top of the Page Manager.” She also noted that tips for creating more than one website with just one user account are available on the Google Operating System blog.
Word of the other Google update came from Search Engine Watch. The change involves the addition of a “Find this book in a library” feature to the Google Book Search. It “takes you to the OCLC Worldcat,” Barry Schwartz wrote. “Then you type in your postal code, state, province or country.”
With any luck, you’ll then be shown results from your local libraries. A note in the Google Book Search Help Center said, “We’re working on integrating the data from our international union catalog partners so you can see it when you click on ‘Find this book a library’ links.”
